The Free Flow Project (FFP) is ARCH’s flagship initiative focused on advancing menstrual health for adolescents and young people through education, access, and innovation. Menstrual health is more than a personal experience, it impacts education, health, and equality. Yet, stigma and limited access to safe products continue to hold many young people back. FFP addresses this through community education and practical solutions, including the MenstraPak — a curated kit providing essential menstrual products and reliable information for safe, confident, and dignified menstrual care.
Growing Momentum Toward Regional Expansion
In many schools, menstruation remains a silent barrier to education. Through the Free Flow Project, ARCH is changing this reality by creating safe spaces where adolescents learn about menstrual health openly and without shame.
Across 9 schools, students engaged in interactive menstrual hygiene education sessions often for the first time. These conversations replace fear and misinformation with confidence and dignity.
The Free Flow Project goes beyond the distribution of menstrual products. Each outreach combines accurate information, hygiene practices, and conversations around self-worth and bodily autonomy.
By pairing resources with education, ARCH helps reduce absenteeism and empowers adolescents to manage their menstrual health with confidence.
From classrooms to community spaces, the Free Flow Project meets adolescents where they live and learn. School and community outreaches bring together students, educators, and volunteers to treat menstrual health as a shared responsibility.
These engagements build trust, encourage dialogue, and strengthen community ownership of menstrual health education.
The Free Flow Project is powered by young people who understand the lived realities of their peers. Youth facilitators lead sessions with empathy and cultural sensitivity, positioning adolescents not only as beneficiaries but as advocates for change.
This youth-led model ensures sustainability and long-term impact.
Insights from the Free Flow Project directly inform the ARCH Menstrual Innovation Lab (AMIL). Challenges observed during outreaches shape future innovation in menstrual products, education tools, and local manufacturing solutions.
What begins as community engagement becomes a pathway to systems-level change.
Education alone is not enough. While awareness and community education are essential, lasting change in menstrual health requires innovation, local manufacturing, and entrepreneurship. The ARCH Menstrual Innovation Lab (AMIL) bridges this gap by transforming real community insights into practical, scalable solutions.
AMIL empowers youth innovators to create sustainable, African-led menstrual health solutions.
Held annually, the Free Flow Conference (FFC) brings together young people, health professionals, and changemakers to address critical gaps in menstrual health through dialogue, innovation, and action.
Each edition builds on the last expanding conversations, strengthening partnerships, and driving impact across communities.
We are preparing for the next edition of the Free Flow Conference. Details on dates, theme, and participation will be announced soon.
